Hi Taratron - my first thought was to loaches, most of which make short work of snails. I have a pair of clown loaches and they keep snails under control in my big tank, I have read that yoyo loaches also do well. Check out loaches.com, there is lots of info there. Good luck !

regarding the chlorine, I personally never use dechlorinator. . . . but I also have several species of corys and a few pl*cos.

Gee whiz if I did that all my fish would be dead on the first water change except maybe the big tank with enough water in it to buffer out the chlorine over the 20 ...

hi - with your fish gasping at the surface and turning red after frequent water changes, might I ask how you are conditioning the water? Are you using a chlorine removal agent if your water supply uses chlorine/chloramine?

sure they will! In my big tank I have 2 c. elegans, 2 c. aeneus, and 6 c. brevirostris, and they all hang out together - in fact, I wasn't even sure the elegans were even still in there before I put in the spotteds . . .

Well just for reference sake, here's one of my 'spotted' corys, I believe positively ID'ed as c. brevirostris, also known as c. wortoi, that is unless I'm way off? The spot pattern is completely different, as you will see . . . I have 6 of these guys, picture doesn't do justice, but the pale stripe ...

Another word of advice, duckweed is like snails - it seems like even one is plenty. I routinely do my best to get every speck of it out of my 10 gallon, down to the last bit, but it seems to get to a critical mass, like glosso, then off it goes! Good luck!

If I may, what I have not seen mentioned here is that for CO2 to be really effective the lighting must be adequate also, to the point that the plants can actually use it. All the nice Amano tanks you see have brilliant lights - see Oliver Knott's site for some examples of really nice planted tanks ...

I'll second MatsP - none of my two dozen or so cories seem to like veggies much, they will eat algae wafers but seem to disdain zucchini. My clown loaches like it, though, and of course the albino bristlenose are in like a dirty shirt. For everyday feeding, I use carnivore pellets, all the cories ...
