Not only that, unless you line it with something, then I would have to assume that the wood would eventually weaken, due to the water. I don't think pre-treated wood would help, since the chemicals may leach into the water.

The only possible way is if it were a large, hollowed out tree.

Hi Amanda, how much did Python pay you to say that? :D LOL

Gozza, if your water faucet does not have a mixer tap, then you should get one in order to use the Python properly. Mixer tap allows the hot and cold water to mix, so you can set the desired temp.

Most people, including myself, add the ...

If you mean the Python No-Spill, then I do use it also. They're great. I used to use the regular gravel vacs, but it was too tedious. I later purchased those battery operated vacs, but it clogged to easy and fast and would cloud the tank. One visit at my LFS, I saw him using the Python No-spill and ...

Eddie,
Is a wet/dry filter powerful enough to get the water through an RO filter? I'm not criticizing. I'm just curious. I think it's a nifty idea.
Amanda

If you direct the pump from the wet/dry filter through the RO/DI, then it should. Booster pumps can be used, such as these...

Salts and minerals removed from RO/DI systems can be added back in. I believe these are contained in aquarium additives.

It does make the water soft, but you can use additives to increase the hardness and aragonite to increase the pH.

Here's an idea I provided on another forum, to reuse your tank water...

1. Run your waste water from the tank, through a regular canister or wet/dry filter. The return line will go through a UV sterilizer to kill any bacteria/parasites. This water will then be pumped to storage container A.
2. Pump ...

Yes, do AVOID using chemicals. My experience with them seems to only stun the snails, but kill fish. Clown loaches work and have heard of successes with yoyo loaches also. Loaches are much better in small groups, since they are nervous fish and safety in numbers.

You can also some lettuce in the ...

Do you know what type of algae? There are different types, with each usually being caused by a certain type of excess nutrient and/or lighting.

I like to use these 2 links for references on algae...

If you have another tank, just fill about half the tank with water with a heater and also an airstone. Then when you do water changes, put some of the water from the current tank into the new tank. After about a week or so, move the filter, decor, and fish into the new tank. Remove the substrate ...

The UV is supposed to be connected on the output flow of the filter. Make sure you buy the correct UV to match your filter flow for the best dwell time (length of time the water makes contact with the UV light). For example, do not buy a 9 watt UV filter, which you plan to connect on a Eheim Pro II ...

Neon tetras should be no problem. Make sure the tank is well established, with good filtration, becuase neon tetras are known to be sensitive to water conditions.

What did you use to treat? Most snails meds just kill snails, PP can kill both and is harmless to plants. BTW, I wouldn't use the carbon media at all. It may contain snails or snail eggs, then you'll end up back where you started.

Also try reducing the amount of light per day. It will not kill the ich, but help reduce the stress of the fish. Ich is like a common cold to humans, so we need a clean environment and plenty of rest. The raised temp and salts should help, so just let the fish rest more to fight it off.
