Re: RO best for spawning zebra plecos?
I have had the same problem. I have tried live black worms with other hypans and the black worms always seem to wind up under the caves. Eventually they eat them though.

Re: Sick corys, please help.
Sometimes I have used a large rubbermaid as a quarantine tank, but you won't be able to see the fish easily. Sorry to hear about your losses.

Re: what are some good medications so have on hand?
I just read the article briefly and the test of the water and it said that the "store" added 1/2 to 3/4 cups per 5 gallons of water. Seems a little high. I think it is recommended that the dose is 1 rounded tablespoon for every 5 gallon as a "stress reducer".

I think it is a peckoltia compta but a variant from a different river. It is something like Jamanxim?

Re: leaking eheim professional 3 2075
The gasket between the motor and the canister needs to be replaced. The gasket may be old and hard and this is the cause of the leak. A new gasket may solve this problem.

Do you turn off the filters when feeding? I find that Ken's earthworm and brine shrimp sticks dissolve and get stirred up easily.

Nice shot. I can see the single egg in the anal fins. Must of had a lot of patience to get that shot. It's a beauty.

If you are in Alberta, Fairdeals, had some around 2-3 in for about 50.00. They did sell out very quickly.

Re: zebra plecos
I would start with something a little less pricey. The L134 is nice but will probably be around $50-$60 a fish not including shipping. I think it is nicer to get a group as you will see more natural behaviour. F1 are suppose to be hardier but plecos are reclusive and its a shame to spend that money ...

Re: Safe to say these are female?
I've only had my peckoltia compta for about 5 months before I got a spawn. Currently I have a male with fry that are about 5 days old and still with yolk sac. There are a few fry out of the cave now. And there are no more signs of possible spawning behaviour. I guess I will have to wait 6 more ...

Also, L411 is a larger fish maxing at around 5" while the L260 is around 3.5". Not that that helps.

Re: L136?
It looks like the same fish I have. I think they are mostly 136a because they have larger spots. The 136b have finer spots like L262. But L262 is a smaller fish then the 136.

Re: Disease ID
I thought velvet was due to oodinium pilularis which is a dinoflagellate. I'm not sure about Ich or chilodonella, but they seem to be related as the meds are similar. It is easy to get confused by the secondary symptoms and overlook the true cause. It would be best to get a proper diagnosis in which ...

Re: Disease ID
I read in a post that metronidazole and salt is also a treatment for velvet. Has anyone tried this? Malachite green is not available in Canada as far as I know.
