That's with the assumption that the brown short fin male is homozygous for both traits, right? If the brown shortfin already has some other genes, you might get some different results.

My kids regularly dig up earthworms and feed them to my fish. My Megalechis picta had a large nightcrawler stuck in his mouth a while before he finally got it all in. I do not chop them up or wash them, although my son does like to pinch them into pieces as he puts them in the tank.

Sounds like you are feeding all the right foods. Maybe too much competition between differently sized fish?

My fry do fine with raw and blanched both.

Find a dead hardwood tree stump that you like, and submerge it in a vat with an airstone. Change the water every couple of months. Repeat until you are satisfied. I usually put dry dead wood in the tank and let it sink naturally.

Honestly, a couple of degrees isn't going to matter much. Your temps are fine for a community tank.
