Re: Can adolf take the heat?
Thank you! I just hate adding meds to my tank if I can help it. They always seem to affect things other than what you want. Of course, heat can do the same thing.

Can adolf take the heat?
Hi, all. The red phantom tetras in my 150g, which I remodeled as a Rio Negro flooded rainforest biotope last summer, are having an ich outbreak. x( I like to treat ich with heat rather than meds or salt, as both of those are devastating on the invert population. Standard procedure is to raise the ...

Re: Shadow Catfish (Hyalobagrus flavus)?
Thanks, Shane. We moved recently and I just the other day discovered the box with my water test kits. Assuming my water is soft enough, I'll give TWS a call.

Re: Hara Jerdoni nano tank
Hey, Rocco. I know this is an old thread, but I'm wondering what you decided and how it's going. I kept Hara jerdoni in my 55g tank for a while, and based on their behavior I'd say one or two would be just fine in a tank this size.

Shadow Catfish (Hyalobagrus flavus)?
Hi, everybody. Haven't been around for a while as I had to tear down all but one of my tanks and get out of the catfish business a while back. But now, settling into a new house, the urge has hit me again, and I am designing a Sumatran rice paddy biotope nano tank. Hoping to build the tank over the ...

Oh, that is cool! I've never had fry from mine, but it could happen. Now that I think of it, my South America tank is so overgrown that it could be happening and I'd never know about it! ha ha ha

Re: Panda Cories
Cory, what is the temperature of your tank? I've heard pandas need coolish water, but that's true of other cories, too.

Re: Green Algae Eaters
Hi, Popeye. I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd chime in with a few ideas. I have really good luck with panda garras. They are actually a cyprinid, but they look like sucker. They eat algae and biofilm, and they do a good job keeping my plant leaves clean. They are really fun to watch ...

Re: Hoplo (Megalechis thoracata) digging?
OK, this situation with the hoplos is getting serious. I was able to catch one of these critters, then spent an hour cleaning off all the hardscape and plants on Sunday, and by monday it was all covered with sand and gunk again. This fish has hollowed out a huge cave under one of the boulders, and I ...

Just thought I'd share a couple pics of my favorite cory. I used to have false bandit cories in this tank, and never saw them except for a quick glimpse at feeding time. These little guys, on the other hand, are always out in the open doing fun things, even when the angelfish are on the prowl for ...

Glad the big move is working out for them. I enjoyed skimming through this thread and seeing the progress you've made with these guys. Great looking cats! Well done.

Re: Hoplo (Megalechis thoracata) digging?
Do pay attention to what Victor wrote about digging when hungry. You might want to feed them a bit more after moving
Yes. That has actually been an ongoing difficulty with this tank. Since it is not in my home, daily feeding is done by the office staff, so I have little control over how much ...

Re: Hoplo (Megalechis thoracata) digging?
Well said, Viktor. I think I'm going to have to just put them in catfish jail for a month and see if the situation improves.

Well, eliminating a few possibilities here...
--I don't think it's the snails. I've had them in all my tanks and I've never seen them dig at all, let alone move mountains.

Re: Hoplo (Megalechis thoracata) digging?
Thanks. I suppose I could put in more sand. The sand layer is about 2" thick in most places already, though it's a planted and aquascaped tank, so there could be some thin spots. Adding substrate to a tank like that poses its own problems...I'll have to give it some thought.
So, you two find that ...

Hoplo (Megalechis thoracata) digging?
Hi, all.
I take care of a 150g rainbowfish tank for a local business. I've had a couple black marble hoplos (Megalechis thoracata) in there for a few months, and I like them. Fun to watch, peaceful, not fussy, not shy at all. Trouble is, the plants in this tank are constantly covered with dirt ...

Howdy, catfish people. I'm new here, Tom from Wyoming.
I am gradually converting my 55 gallon community tank into a "regional" tank using fish and plants from southern/eastern Asia. I keep hearing about two-spot catfish, and I am interested in learning about them. They seem fairly difficult to find ...
