Hmm sounds like alot of bottom dwellers att the same place. (you didnt mention tank size.)
I have a small L75 that has lived with me for a short time. He is abit cautious, verry aware of all the other fishes, but when no "threat" is around, he is quite active.

My 2 cents..

i tried moving him to another tank and medicate it. But i was to late... hi died sometime during the newyears night. He was 20cm when he died.

My Platystacus cotylephorus is behaving very strange. He is gasping for air on the surface and he swims around with his mouth above water. He has som white "slime" that hangs from parts of his tail and fins, looks like some sort of disseas. Its almost like he is changing skin !

I just bought me a used eheim 2227 to replace my two other canister filters. Im super happy about the new eheim, it works like a charm and is absolutly the most quiet canister filter i have ever heard.

The specimens im thinking about is A. Tamboensis. They are quiet large, 7-8cm. I dont think they are any more good looking than my "common" ancistrus.

Here they want 155kronor for one fish, thats abaout 20dollars. So your 30 cents sounds alot nicer :shock:

Atlas: i have the same problem !
I bought 3 Panaque Maccus recently.. only one made it. And now its dying ! (sunken belly and eyes). I dont know whats wrong. Everyone else in the tank is ok.
