L144 question
Is it possible to get L144 from a cross of a red marble and either another red marble, a calico or a gold spot. Not sure who the Mom is, but Dad is a red marble. Some of the fry are looking like common gold spot BN, but what looks like a large portion of a possible second clutch of eggs are yellow ...

 Sorry to hear your female died.
I have had problems getting my albino BN to spawn as well. I've tried all the tricks and all my ohter BN including my long fin albinos have all spawned 3 or 4 times since my standard fin albinos have.

There is a size difference with all spawns (likely male/female) but BN will spawn with eggs or fry in the same pot. My 3 brown females lay eggs on the same day, but my albinos looked like they were going to spawn about 10 days apart (till one female died)

Strange, but this is not the first post I've seen on this problem. On some other forums I'm on (for angels etc) they have had the same thing happen....all but 1 of their BN plecos have died off overnight. The remaining one is fine but 2 or 3 died off during the night. Some with signs of fighting ...

Of my 3 female (brown) BN breeders they are all different sizes. I'm sure if it is not due to lack of food as there are left overs in the morning. Some just don't eat as much, but the largest female is the dominant one and gets to spawn with the male first :) He lets them all in the cave on the same ...

I have heard of new fathers eating the eggs, but if he has spawned before then I would check to see if something is up with the tank. I have read they will breed for years, but is it possible the male know the eggs are not fertile? If you have another male I would try him with the ladies and see if ...

The pot with a hole in the lip and resting in the saucer is fine. When you do a w/c you can use slightly cooler water so you drop the tmep a degree or so. It will suprise you how much poop even 2 create. In a 10g you will need to do every other day w/c likely.

Till more is know about the genetics of BN we won't be sure. With angels it is possible to get "throw backs" from grand parents. This is from breeders who have kept track of the genetics of fish they have bred and kept to use as breeders. There are not very many...ie 1 or 2 in a spawn of say 400 ...

Congrats on the spawn! Sounds like you have a good Dad there to. If they are the only fish in the tank all you will have to worry about is the filter. If you have a hob one you will have to cover the intake as the tiny free swimmers will go in it....not just get sucked in, but try to get in. You ...

Did you have fry die off very young in the other spawns, or maybe the particular female who had the brown fry didn't spawn before.

One of the parents must not carry 2 albino genes. If they each pass on 2 genes one must be a/b and the other a/a. Your ratio should be more like 1/2 brown. Albino is a recessive gene so unless you get an a/a combo they will be brown.

In my BN grow out tank there are some young ones who seem to sit on the food for a very long time, others eat for 5 minutes or less an take off. A few days isn't too far off as it only takes about 4 days for the eggs to hatch into what with many other fish are called wigglers. They have the huge egg sac and can't swim very well, but they can use that sucker mouth to stick to the glass or other things.

The male may keep them in the cave for 10 or more days :)

How big are the fry? If you have a planted tank with plenty of tiny hidding spaces it may be easier to leave them in the main tank. You can TRY to catch them and put them in a 10g but you should have a cycled sponge filter in the tank.
