Is this a synodontis angelicus?

Post by Heck »

I am appropriately embarrassed about the quality of the pic and I understand if it's not good enough to get an ID. This guy is labeled at my LFS. What do you think?

https://www.planetcatfish.com/synodontis_sp_hybrid(3) I would say. 100% not S. angelicus.

Cheers,

Thanks, both. I expressed my doubts to the LFS guys. One employee was incredibly rude and tried to explain that I was confused, which was incredibly frustrating. The store manager, who knows me by now, was polite but told me I was mistaken and he was positive it was s. angelicus.

I'm hardly an expert, and it's not my job to argue with them even if I were, but I'm still annoyed that they wouldn't even consider the possibility that it was mislabeled. They wanted $50 for it and I probably would have bought it if it were an angelicus - good thing it isn't, as I don't need another fish 😂

Not sure how long you've been in the hobby, but most store clerks are there to sell for as much as they can get. It will always fall to you to do your research and know your fish. For the most part, they are just there to sell it to you. It's a rare shop that really wants to learn right along with you (or from you) and wants to make sure you get the correct fish that you want.
