Can anyone identify these striped corys?

Post by BillD »

I bought 6 of these today, labeled as wild caught C. loxozonus, although they look nothing like loxozonus pictured on this site. Any help in identifying them would be appreciated.

Looks a lot like a Corydoras bilineatus maybe?

As soon as i saw the photo i thought Axelrodi - if it is, these do seem to be around in the UK at the moment at various places

Thanks all for the replies. It does seem to be species cw021.They have the colouration in the tail the axelrodi don't seem to have as well as the black on the dorsal. They seemed to settle in very quickly, and appear to be healthy. I always worry about wild caught, but the store did not lose a single individual even after 3 weeks. The store also had some nice fowleri, but they were a little pricey for me, and they lost the whole first shipment. Again, thanks for the prompt responses.
After a second look at the pictures in the link, I see the similarity between the two species, although mine look more like the 21s in most pictures.

They do have similarities between "21's" & axelrodi - axelrodi being extremely variable IME. If Ian chips in then he'll probably give a conclusive ID, particulalry since the 'CW' prefix is his id system for undescribed species :D

Hi,

this is IMHO definitely a CW021 (C. cf. axelrodi), the difference is the parallel stripe pattern and CW021 tend to have more colour.
C. axelrodi has a different stripe pattern (somehow more diagonal).

Cheers,

As the majority have said the pictures show CW21 a species similar in colour pattern to C. xelrodi. Where they differ is as already stated in that CW21 has parallel stripes and in C. axelrodi they converge towards the caudal fin, also the thick stripe stops at the caudal peduncle in CW21, but extends into the lower caudal lobe in C. axelrodi.

Thanks so much Ian, for that definitive reply, which negated the need for me to ask to have the differences pointed out.
