I received another 4 C. perugiae today, from an unlikely source - the Natural history museum in London. Thanks to Racoll for making the contact. I have promised to give any eggs/fry that come out of this to the scientis that gave me the fish... They were nice size and originally came from Wildwoods, so possibly originally from Glaser...

They were linked from another website and that other website was temporarily unavailable. I know this as I run the other website! So, they are there now. There is a LOT going on behind the scenes at the websites I run at present in response to poor performance at PlanetCatfish and the other sites.

I emptied my smallest tank today and it maybe worthwhile (especially to Steve/the dark one) that I have still 6 specimens of . I know so because I had to saw their piece of wood in half to make it fit nicer and was now able to see them a little better. Not that they came out, which I strongly hoped for. Stubborn little things.
On the other hand, the missing third did not show up, so that species is now officially down to one pair.

Confused!

As you know, thanks to Steve (the.Dark.One) and Mats, I recently acquired three . I collected them from Mats, and added them to my tank, now cannot find two of the three! I have removed everything from the tank, but nothing, and have even moved the cabinet to check behind but nothing! At feeding time, one female comes out and eats well, but absolutely no sign of the other two. The tank has a condensation tray, with no means of escape, and I have checked and no dead fish have been seen. It's not even like there is anything in there that could eat them - one banjo, a small plec (Ogliancistrus or Spectracanthicus) and a trio of checkerboard cichlids!
Confused is not the word! :eusa-think:

In case they died - which I don't hope! - you will find hardly anything of them, except for a skull. I think your other fishes would have had no problem in eating them once dead.

Did you check your wood thoroughly? Maybe they're tugged away in a piece.
Best of luck finding them!

On a side note: I got a Peru stocklist today and there was nothing worthwhile on it......

I don't think they could still be alive after all this time without openly eating food. Only one ever comes out to feed, and I have checked the wood over several times (the plec is always tucked into a hole in the underside and won't come out, even when lifted from the water), so can only assume they must have died. I will take the tank apart again tonight and double check the wood again.

Hi Martin
I hope you find them alive. The person who got them didn't lose any out of the whole lot, they were very healthy.

No, sadly not :((
Everything else is feeding well and happy, and they went in without any problems, and were even out feeding the same day they went in. I appreciate there isn't much of a skeleton, but am sure I would have seen them had they passed away - either floating or being pushed around in the current.
I have no doubt that they were 100% healthy, am just really confused as to how they can just disappear!

Here's a couple of shots of the pair I got. They are the 'variant' with the clear bands either side of the dark band (which is why I've labelled them creutzbergi rather than gyrina, links for them also below - though I know they are currently classed as one species).
