Well, well. Hopefully the LFS has to order this week. I could certainly do with some company for the single female - which I haven't seen since she was put into the large tank...

Meanwhile I have a different problem: one of the Eheims is leaking and I'm not quite sure where. My best guess would be one of the clasps that keeps the top on the cannister. These have already been ordered by the same LFS.

Can anyone share his experiences with Ageneiosus cf.atronasus?

Are they fragile, how much space do they need, difficult feeders, easily
stressed,...?

I kept them for a few years about 11 years ago. They are pretty hardy, ate frozen bloodworm readily and were quite calm. They liked to rest in leafy plants.

Are you going to get some then? If so, from OF?

update of the Auchenipterids I got from Marc:
Till thus far the Tatia dunni hasn't showed up. Not in daylight, nor in the middle of the night.
Marc told me it was the shyest woodcat he has kept so I'm not worried (yet).
The Tatia intermedia is swimming around happily with his 2 new buddies.
Spinipterus has found new friends as well: It dwelss in a small tube together with Ituglanis metae, C. perugiae and C. concolor.

I find them rather skittish, but good eaters (flakes as well). Their shape and nice blue colour make them an asset for any tank imo.
A negative point is that they are regularly visited by Ich-like spots. On the other hand, they get rid of these spots by themselves, meaning without me having to use medication.

Yesterday one of these buggers fooled me hugely.
It was floating belly up near the surface in an "oak leaf fern"(*) and after some severe cursing I decided to take it out by hand. As the tank cover is not easily removed and I - therefore - could not see what I was doing, I asked my son to help me out because for some stupid reason I couldn't grab the corpse. He looked at me and said: the corpse is swimming away from your hand; that why.....
Needless to say I was very relieved it was still alive -)

Last week didn't work out, but luckily the LFS is going to order this week, so just now I ordered 4 specimens of T. taeniatus (2M/2F) to keep the single girl company.
I have seen her a few times last week (feeding red mosquito larvae did the trick), but she could do with some more food and company. I agree with Alex that this is a typical example of a species that does best in a group.
If all goes well they should arrive next Thursday afternoon.

Yup, seen them on that list and found out through it that they are indeed large (15-17 cms). Definitely a shop to visit, but first they have to sell their Ageneiosus marmoratus. I know myself too well I'm afraid....
Getting the T. taeniatus from my LFS in Eindhoven, which means 1.5 km instead of 90 kms and a lower price.

Ordered 4 (2 pairs), got 2 (females).....
4 specimens did indeed arrive, but one was returned instantly because it's head & pectoral area were covered with fungus. Gender of this specimen unknown, as I wasn't able to see it.
The third specimen was still in the shop when I arrived, but both pectoral spines were broken, it had a wound/red spot on its belly and was so skinny that I could have placed my thumb in its belly (in other words: it was hollow). On top of that it was a female as well.
As these 4 specimens were separately packed, both the LFS and myself were not amused at all. I mean, I take it the people at Ruinemans aren't blind. The LFS owner - usually quite relaxed - went to the phone on the very second that I left shop, so I'll soon hear what is going to happen. As I would like to have 2 healthy males, I hope something can be worked out.

The 2 other females look okay and they are large. 15-17 cms was no exaggeration. They are adapting to my water atm. Pix asap.

The infamous (Hyacinth) bucket picture Adapting to my tank water by means of a very small (air-)hose. As little "bag water" as possible (see picture above) in the bucket, which is then slowly filled up with tank water.

if the wholesaler screws up again, we'll keep a lookout if Bijn or Utaka has a male in their batch

at this size it should be visible.

I had to make some room for these.

How many do you have and what size are they?

I have 6 of them, they are about 5cm I guess.

If all goes well, Ruinemans is going to deliver those 2 males next Thursday. And that's quite a service, for the LFS has ordered nothing else.....

I have asked Riny if he would take a good look at the ones at utaka and according to him and the owner of Utaka, most or all are likely to be female.

I'm searching for males for Marc; 4 eyes see more than just 2

the sex ratio seems oddly skewed.....

Normally Marc already knows I have some males at my work.

I bought 2 males earlier this year, around 12cm, very clearly males...
When I bought my females 2 years ago, there were no males.

You may stop doubting, for I have indeed received those 2 specimens and one of them is a male for sure. Nice and healthy specimens, yet somewhat shorter than the previous 2.
