Hi Tofi,
I clearly have 2+1 specimen... but what sexes
I am at work, so I don't see your posted pictures.
But if you haven't, please take pictures of the genital papilla with surrounding plates. That is the only possibility for P. microps detemerining the sexes.

Hi Tofi,

Can you please give some pictures with a closer view of genital papilla and surrounding plates?
Regarding the shown pictures I would say both specimen are males.

nice to see a notification on this "old" topic...

the fishes are doing fine :YMPEACE:

as I had to remove their 160 liters tank to build the Potamotrygon inside "pond", they took place into the 720 liters together with Pterophyllum altum for a while.

here are a few pictures of the 2 biggest... the third is only outside for feeding time...

they finally got used to several foods : nori leaves (the first weeks, it was impossible to feed them with something else), Hikari algae wafers chips, Tetra Diskus, and spirulina chips "flamand vert" (which is a dietical trademark for humans). A delicatessen is Gammarus, even if they are not fast enough considering the Altums to get too much... But they love it.

Considering their new feeding habits, I don't have any more problems of "skinny belly" for a few months... The point is to give food 3 to 5 times a day, as they really are "feeding machines" :YMDEVIL:

The "big tank" should be ready in September. Then, I'll be able to lighten the fish charge into the 720 liters (actually housing too much fishes, waiting for the big one to be ready). I'll try to find 3-5 Pterosturisoma to join these 3, as I'm not convinced about sexing...

the same 2 fishes, quite similar in size, but I (wish to) see a difference in genital papilla :

I'm mad ! Yesterday, coming back from job... I found the smallest Pterosturisoma, dry, dead on the floor... at about 2 meters away from the open tank...

I guess it happened by night and leaving yesterday morning, I didn't notice it...

Nice work. :D
ElTofi wrote: Nori Leaves (Dennerle or JBL, I can't remember. I'll check tonight) YES !
Would it be cheaper to buy nori from a local Asian supermarket than buying branded aquarium products?
Sorry for interruption. Nori is common or required leaves with special treatment, "oilfree"?

personnaly, I use without any problem Nori leaves from Asian grocery, usually for human food... the trademark is "SAITAKU sushi nori" and the nutritional informations for 100 gr are :

1260 kJ
protein 37 gr
carbohydrates 37 gr
fat 0 gr
sodium 5.6 gr

they love it...
