Hi,
I posted 2 whips here a while back, and was told one was Sturisoma aureum and the other Sturisomatichthys leightoni.
I now have eggs, and am trying to work out which one is which. (Another forum says this is a Sturisoma Festivum.)
Picture is not brilliant and the flash has made him look a bit green. Heâ??s a creamy beige colour with darker brown patches. Heâ??s just under 7 inches with additional 4 inch tail extensions.
Thoughts appreciated please.

Thanks! :D

There are a bunch of previous threads where Shane explains that these fish are very "confused" in the trade. I'll let Shane tell you what this one is, unless you find out by yourself. Try a Forum Search for "Sturisom" in the "What is my catfish" forum.

Hi Saraya,

The photo shows a Sturisoma festivum and nothing else. ;)

Hi all,
I think it's my turn to ask some dumb questions.
Doesn't it seem more likely that both fish that spawned are the same genus and species than an inter-generic cross resulting in this spawn. I have 6 adult Sturisoma that I have tried to breed for the past 8 months and they are all the same species so far no results. This spawning seems so straight forward rather than forced as I would expect between two closely related genera.
Doesn't this strike anyone else as a little unusual?
PS: My laptop didn't light up or ring any bells. I just noticed that this was my 500TH post!
