I'm looking for either a single fish or a breeding pair of something. I'm currently after a pair of dwarf snakeheads, but not sure if that's likely to happen. If I have a single fish, I want it to be large, unusual and personable, same applies for a breeding pair. Any ideas?

30G isn't 'large' but if you like cool cats and want to breedc them a whole list of interesting Loricariids spring to mind.

before I go off on a long ramble about the possibilities though: how's your tapwater?
is it soft or hard, acidic or alcalic, nitrates etc

Eurgh, locarids. Not really my cup of tea- I prefer things like Clarotidae, that sort of body shape. Tap water, most likely hard, alkali etc, I don't bother testing for pH and hardness, if a species can't adapt, it's not worth me keeping. That said, all my fish sources use local tap water even for 'softwater species' like galaxy rasboras, chocolate gouramis and the like, and they're thriving.

I was thinking about an C. apus, but lack of information and sources saying they're prone to parasites and fungus put me off slightly, as well as the probability whatever gets sent won't be what I ordered.
