hi all
I brought this little chap about 6 months ago as a L007 vampire plec
he has not grown at all since then (T/L 3.5 - 4")
I don't see the V in the mouth so I'm thinking he is not a L007 so what is he?

he has had enough and gone back in his cave, so no more pics for a while

I agree, it's most certainly not a Leporacanthicus - the mouth is not right, and the body doesn't look enough "spiky".

Now to fidn what he is, is a different matter...

Some possible ones: I'm not able to determine exactly, but perhaps if we work together, with you looking at the picture and the real fish, to eliminate and reduce the list...






As I said, it's not a perfect match on any of them, it may well be none of the above, and someone else may have a better idea of what genus it is.

I would say he is .

I have seen many with yellow/golden spots yours has, although none that attractive.....

I'll stick my neck on the line here and say I'm sure he's not a Baryancistrus.

The mouth is far too small in my opinion.

An in-focus close-up photo of the mouth should give a genus anyway (they all have a different dental arrangement).

I agree with Racoll, look at the distance between the back of the dorsal and the front of the adipose fines.

Also, the shape of the rostrum looks wrong for and has the characteristic shape.

To reiterate, a good shot of the mouth and erect dorsal fin would do it!

Also, I don't think a 4" Baryancistrus would show that degree of odontodal growth on the pectoral fins.
