...but apparently it's nearly 8" TL.
The catelog gives SL as 5.9" for
which was my initial ID, the only other fish i can find that is bigger and looks similar is
. Is it just a large P.siamensis, or something else?
FYI I have received an OK for me to use the above picture from it's owner, as the fish is not mine.

I think it's just a big pseudomystus. Cat-e-log says 5.9" SL add the tail & there's your 8".
It certainly isn't B.Macropterus

It should also be worth noting here that the sizes in the Cat-eLog is the "best of our knowledge". If you take a sample of thirty humans, it's unlikely that you'll find someone who is much over 6'6" (2m), but go to a (high level) basketball game, and I'd say you probably find a couple of 7' players. So if you can correctly identify and measure the fish, I'd be happy to update the data in the Cat-eLog based on that measurement.

This is a nice fish ! though i'd say P.Siamensis is at least seven maybe eight inches standard length, they are quite variable too , some are very colourful and remain so as adults wheras some appear quite dull !

Any documented [photo next to a ruler/tape-measure for example] evidence of such would be taken into account for updating the Cat-eLog.
