Bristlenose aggression?

Today I noticed one of my bronze cories approaching a chunk of driftwood in my 20 gallons long tank. The male bristlenose, Rhinox, was under a ledge of the wood...and promptly rushed out and chased the cory away!
I've never heard of this, and I'm sure if the male was defending eggs, wouldn't I see them?

bristlenoses lay there eggs underneath something so you may not see the eggs, Im assuming you have a female in the tank.
They are also very good parents and if you notice the female wont guard them as well as the male but she will be close by.
Also check to see if the male is "fanning" the eggs you will see his fins looking like a fan.
If I were you I would really add a small cave in the tank, I have had several bristlenoses claim small caves just big enough for them, it is better for the fry too as in the day they will live in the cave with dad.

I have a semi-cave in the tank: an elbow shaped piece of PVC, covered with plants. Will that work?

It should I have noticed they like caves with only one opening for some reason this is what all my bristlenose males pick.
