White Spot on Synodontis Multipunctatus

Post by Groovylad »

Hi all,

As you can see by the picture there is a white spot that appeared over the last month. It hasn't grown in size for awhile, it looks like the skin pigment is turning white, no fuzz or abnormality with it. I checked for heater burns but I feel like this is not the case as both my heaters are Marineland Stealth with plastic skin and my water temp is steady at 77.9. It is not showing any signs of stress, he eats well and swims actively all over when its feeding time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Is this fish in with other syno's ? Looks like it is in the picture. This is what it generally looks like when it has been stuck by another synodontis, this is an odd area but this still should be the cause. Generally with good food and good water conditions this will heal alright...as long as it does not continue fighting.

Thank you for the reply and yes he is with another Syno multi... They have been together for at least 2 years and are always together, chasing each other periodically all over the tank. The water is very clean with weekly water changes, is this a type of injury that is something I should be concerned about? Will it disappear over time?

Thanks again,

If this is the type of injury I think it is it will heal just fine...syno's are fairly tough in this respect , I have seen them heal from some fairly nasty wounds much much nastier than this one.

Does melafix help with the healing process as I always add some every water change as well as pimafix, I add them more as a preventive and help with healing.

In this case yes it will help the healing process...but using it continuously is like mats has said in the past, it's like taking aspirin every day just in case you get a head ache...not really necessary

The pic is not too sharp so i cant see exactly but i do think Birger is correct, in that it is a scrape to the body inflicted by another syno, either directly or as a rock scratch when they are chase-fighting.

There 'might' be other possibilities but i think not in this case
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!
