I've been playing around with the idea of getting some small synos with the intent of trying to breed them. Mostly because I have trouble with getting my Synodontis Eupterus spawning and think maybe having another smaller species to play around with might help. I haven't decided yet, because if I add in more catfish, I'm cutting my killies chance to breed. I also don't really want to devote another tank to synos so only the smallest ones are options.

I know there's:
-Synodontis petricola, readily available, I know a breeder.
-Synodontis nigriventris, readily available in shops.
- Synodontis contractus, never seen them before.

Any others no larger then 4"?.

S. petricola/lucipinnis are easy to bred and you can make first experience with spawning Synodontis, but i think it doesn't really help to spawn S. euptera or an other riverine species like S. nigriventra/S. contracta.

Microsynodontis could also be interesting for you, but i know no breeding report.

Microsynodontis are cute...Maybe I'll keep an eye out for them.

Lucipinnis are pretty easy and lot's of info exists on this. (Petricola are a little bit harder and if you know a breeder they often turn out to be Lucipinnis despite what a lot of people think (or insist upon)).

Contracta have produced eggs only once in captivity to my knowledge and mine are certainly not playing ball!!!

Nigriventris have spawned on occasion & would be a good choice of riverine species to attempt.

have you thought about Mochokiella?

Microsynodontis would also be a good project

They seem like another nice choice.
You know, actually I didn't ask the breeder I know, I assumed they had that variety by looking at them myself. They may indeed have the other kind of syno since I've never seen them.
