cave dimension for Peckoltia compta

Hi there Apistomaster,

I have managed to build up a colony of 8 L134 which I am confident are of mixed sex.

I am planning a breeding set up. Could you advise of the dimensions of the ceramic caves you have had success with.

I will build some caves from ceramic tiles and I have some slate tiles I can split then cut to shape with an angle grinder

I thought the best orientation of the caves to water current was at 90 degrees, does this fit with your breeding success??

Many thanks
Stuey

Yes, most of the caves have water flowing past the entrance at about 90* to the opening of the caves.
This is the first year after 3 consecutive years that mine have not already begun spawning so perhaps at 8 to 9 years old the wild breeders are too old.
I am setting up several groups of 3 year old F1's in 40 gal and continue to hope my old fish produce.
I offer a range of cave sizes but the rectangular shaped caves are about 1" X 1-1/4" but some are slightly larger and some smaller.
Patience is a prerequisite to breeding most of the more popular Hypancistrus spp and L134.
