Busy Bristlenose
I have keep some of the fry from my albino bristlenose and I have been keeping 4 in a 36" X 12" tank. I was hoping to have 2 pair that I was getting ready to split up, into 2 smaller tanks. But as my luck has been running.

I would think that adding a few more plants might give the cory's a little more cover.
If you have another tank I would set it up to spawn the cory's in, It would be for the spices of cory's that you want to spawn. I do not mix the spices of fish that I wish to spawn. That is just the one ...

You have great looking fish !!
I too am a firm believer in keeping any fish that I wish to spawn in a spices only tank. I keep other fish in the tank, but none of the same spices. That is if I am wanting to spawn cory's then no other cory's it the tank.

You must be doing something right, your oto's keep on spawning.. Great work.
I think I will read over your post, I have 10 oto's in a planted 10g. with a few guppies. Maybe I can get them to spawn.

Help finding me a new Pleco
I do not have any luck using the search button, so I am going to put out the question here.
I am looking to find a pleco to add to my fishroom?
I would like it to be a algae eater, not over 4.5" inches, and my water runs 7.4 to 7.8 ph range.
I like the striped or patterned fish over the spotted ...

I would like to add a word of caution, the fish and game dept. of all the states might not take this use of capture to be legal. This would not be a usefull way of collecting fish, they would be DEAD.

Re: High PH pleco ?
I would like to add a word of caution, mbuna's are some of the more aggressive African cichlids. If I was going to try and keep Bristlenose with them, I would try to pick some of the larger females. The tentacles of the males might not last long.
This is just my 2c.

Hello, katgermain
I would follow the suggestions given by the others. Then wait a few days to let your tank balance out from
the chemicals.
Do not clean your filter on the same day that you do a water change.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I see that it wouldn't be the tanic acid that does the work.

It is my understanding that tanic acid will also lower the oxygen levels in the water.
In days gone by, people would use nut, leaves and bark from some trees. They placed large amounts of this in a pool in a slow flowing stream. It would cause the fish to be stuned and come to the surface, making ...

I am looking for some L200's
I would like to find out if there is any that are looking for a new home.
I would prefer Baryancistrus demantoides over Hemiancistrus subviridis.
Any info about them would be great.
Thanks

I like to collect wood for some of my tanks also.
That hollow log will make a nice addition to any tank.
I have noticed that some woods will leach tanic acid into the water.
This can be harmful to your fish. It will discolor the water to.

Yes!! Very nice group of male african cichlids. I would think that a group of Syo. Multi's would fill the tank.
Maybe a couple more of the vineing planst would soften the lines up little.

I am sorry for your lose!!
My outlook on the different fish that I keep is,
if you have the mid-swimmers about 1 1/2 years is a long life span,
if you have bottom swimmers about 2 to 2 1/2 years,
and some of the small algea eatters 3 years,
the larger algea eatters 4+ years.

Great job. I just saw the thread, I read a few of the starting post. I think this is a great idea, I will read the rest of the posts.
I have a 40 us.gal. tank setting empty, I might set it up and watch the LFS to see what is out there in my part of the country.

Re: housing synodonti multipuncatus....
Yes, I agree with Richard. I do not like to keep any spices of fish at just 2, any other group size but 2.
The only time that I have seen any aggression from female syo. multipuncatus is when there was no cichlids spawning at the same time.

What I am saying is, if anyone has some fish for sale that they will be willing to sell through this program, thus saying that they are a true species of said L number that I would consider buying them.

By your reply and reading the other topics in this subfourm, I take it that there has not been anyone willing to say that their fish is a true representative of a given species.
