Re: Plecos in a planted tank?

I have a fairly heavily planted tank and I keep two longfin Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. They are quite colorful, one is a lovely golden yellow and the other is white. Both have red eyes. They do no real damage to my plants, and even delicately remove any algae from the leaves, except for one anubias ...

Re: Algae wafers

I use Hakari Algae wafers for my plecs and SAE. They don't seem to cloud the water at all. I find that you must be careful not to add too much in the beginning. I started with breaking a wafer in pieces and doing a little experimenting to find out how much they can consume in a couple of hours. Then ...

Re: Algae eater for brackish tank?

Nerite snails do a terrific job of eating algae in my tanks. I have different kinds of Nerites: Olive, Green Tiger, and Red Lady Tiger. I must say, however, that the Olives do the best job. In your brackish tank they will probably breed like mad things. I like to keep about 1 Nerite per gallon of ...

Re: Young pleco won't eat. Help?

Thank you to all who have taken the time to respond to a newbie. I will take your words to heart. I do know that this trio was very difficult for the lady at my local fish store to catch. Perhaps that experience injured my little plec to the point he could not recover, for he never did well. I ...

Re: Young pleco won't eat. Help?

Unfortunately, my little pleco that refused to eat died today. It just simply never ate a thing, though it was offered algae wafers, zucchini, Hakari Micro Wafers, and Spirulina 20. The curious thing is that the other two young plecos, purchased with the sickly one, are thriving. Does anyone know if ...

Re: Loricariidae eating nerite snail eggs?

Well, I was told by the lfs where I got them that in freshwater the eggs will never hatch. That seems to be true, so far. I like these little guys, they carefully clean the tank and plants. But I'm puzzled about those eggs and whether or not my plecs are munching them.

Loricariidae eating nerite snail eggs?

Does anyone know whether or not Loricariidae will eat nerite snail eggs? I keep about a dozen or so nerites and they've begun laying tiny eggs on my driftwood. They are there for a while, then appear to be in a different position. I know the eggs aren't moving, so I'm wondering if my plecs are ...

Re: Young pleco won't eat. Help?

He has never been seen eating, unlike the other two that I bought with him. We even took him out and put him in a holding tank of his own tank water and tried to feed him. He would sit right on top of the food and not eat. He's breaking my heart.

Young pleco won't eat. Help?

I have three young albino longfin bristlenose plecos. Two eat like hogs and are growing rapidly. One little guy won't eat at all and is getting very weak. Any ideas that might help?

pleco for community tank

I am a newbie to fish-keeping, and can use some help. I would like to get a pleco to join the fun in a tank inhabited by platies, guppies, olive nerite snails, and two red rabbit snails. It is a 29-gallon planted tank. I use a Hydro Sponge Filter 5. I'd like a pleco that will stay small, ideally 3 ...
