Tonight I saw two mating. Does anyone know for how long the female keeps the fertilized eggs?

I've had Cetopsis coecutiens with banjo cats, but most fishes will be eaten. When one of my whale cats got a bacterial infection it was eaten as well.

I named my Acanthicus hystrix Blackie (after Lawless).
Didn't help much, though - it was killed by a bunch of wasp-like Leporinus tetras...

My Liosomadoras morrowi left the hideout this morning and I was able to take some pics.
She(?) is 6" SL and becoming quite impressive. Wish I could find her a partner!

I've had some difficulties with the gulpers, but this one seems ok.
It was really happy to get a couple of malawi cichlids as tankmates.

Look out for parasites.
My three small gulpers stopped eating after a few weeks, and then I discovered lice on them. I removed the lice, but the gulpers didn't start eating. It took three months for them to get better. I guess they had some nasty gill parasite - the medicin that eventually worked ...

What about Ariopsis? That seems to be CoF's choice:

Brooklamprey's comment in Cat-eLog might be comforting:

These fish have been observed feeding on dead fish and fillet as well as frozen thawed fish.

But I guess they won't be a great choice for the community tank.

I still haven't seen it eat, but my L. morrowi is by far the fattest cat in the tank - it's HUGE. I think it preys on juvenile T. intermedia (I don't mind).

No doubt about it - the eggs are fertile.

Starting today, this young female will spend some weeks in solitary confinement.
"Some weeks" turned out to be "a few hours".
Tonight I discovered eggs and a much slimmer female. No other fish was in the tank. Now we just have to wait for the eggs to wag their little tails...

The actual question is that scientists believe that the genital papilla of male Centromochlins is unfit to enter the female's body - unlike that of other Auchenipterids.

Had 3 SD's in with a a couple of plecs for awhile they all got along fine the only problem is the SD's will eat anything you put in for the plecs especially lettuce. :P
My 10 XL Myleus rubripinnis eat anything I put in the tank - peas, lettuce, shrimp, fish meat, mussels, even sinking pellets. And ...

Asterophysus is - by far - the least shy woodcat I've come across.
They're like hungry and happy pitbull puppies.

They had just come out of the box after a 9 hour long busride across Sweden and were probably a little bit shocked.
Today I won't be able to take a picture like that.
But gulper cats seem to be quite social and not as nocturnal as other woodcats, so I will have the camera ready.

Actually the first time I noticed that their lower jaws are pointed to such extent. Very nice picture and a great asset to your Auchenipterid clan.
