Post by FuglyDragon »

Found this on youtube, from a BBC doco, Amazon Abyss.

Check out the size of the panaque at the end, good shots of a least 1 plec underwater and several other cats in natural habitat.

this one is good too

Those were amazing I watched all 5 clips. I wish I could find the remainder. Those shots of the ghost fish were amazing and some of the cats were just rediculously cool.

I saw Amazon Abyss for the first time a month or so ago on Discovery Channel. I would've preferred less emphasis on the expedition and more on the environment. I feel like I could've spent one hour less sitting in front of the TV if I didn't have to watch them swimming and finding nothing and having technical issues. Nothing against the people, but I wanted more interesting footage! Having de Pinna in it, as an actual catfish expert, was kinda cool, though.

Yeah - it did sort of leave me feeling half satisfied, but hey, it was better than nothing! Now , if only they wanted to do a 3 hour special on catfishes from tanganyika.................................. :P

They spoke a right pile of crap though, they went looking for a red tail catfish and couldn't find one so they pretended they were looking for a megladoras when they found one, they made a right song and dance about it but had already filmed one hiding amongst the sponges in the earlier program.
Also they said that the ghost knife fish was the largest knife fish of all and then went on to film an electric eel-duh!
I thought it was a great show (apart from the misinformation, there was more) for seeing the fish in their natural environment, it's amazing that they havnt made more seeing how much time is spent filming lions etc. and the fish in the amazon are are easily as interesting and easily impressive (brachyplatiatoma).
I too was jumping up and down at the bit with the raphael catfish but my misses was too, I was chuffed because I don't think they are exclusively nocturnal in the wild and this seemed to encourage that theory. That bit really was the best part of the show I wished it was longer.
I have it on DVD and watch it all the time but mostly with the sound turned down to avoid "telly abuse syndrome" when they spout such nonsense.
Matt
One more bucket of water and the farce is complete.
