From the proportions relative to the tank, that would seem to be a large fish, but the Cat-eLog says 5 inches. Is it just me...?

That's in a photo tank, so it's a bit hard to see how large it really is, but I agree, it looks bigger than the 121 mm listed in Fishbare (and from which I expect the Cat-eLog number is extracted).

The fish is about 30 cm SL. The number in FishBase or the Cat-eLog is necessarily low, because the only published size for this species came from the original description (of which only one specimen was examined).

HH, would you think it makes sense to update the Cat-eLog in this case. Obviously fishbase doesn't necessarily take updates based on personal comments, but certainly we could update the Cat-eLog.

[Also, do you have any idea how large they COULD potentially be?]

30 cm is a ballpark figure. I'll have to measure the specimen tomorrow for the actual size. It's a bit tricky estimating how big this would grow to, as I am not even sure what the maximum size of H. nemurus (the most common species) is (the largest ones I have examined in museums are about 40 cm SL, but I thought I saw one about 60 cm SL in a market in Borneo...of course, one's perception of size in a crowded market may be somewhat distorted).

Beautiful fish Silurus. That's a very attractive color and pattern on that fish.
