Anybody know this 6" Grey catfish

Post by DomByrne »

Hello

I have 1 catfish in my tank. It is grey about 6 inches long, long barbels about 3-4 inches. I want to identify it and wonder if there are other fishes I could put in the tank with it. I have tried others but they either get eaten or attacked and killed.

Thanks

Hi,
A picture of your fish will help to identify it and let people answer you. Could you put one on line?
Thank you

I have a picture of the fish but I am not sure how to insert the picture into the forum. I had a look at the help, do you know how to get the image shown?

Hi,
Are you able to add a slightly larger picture, pls? Apparently you've posted a thumb nail instead of the 'real' picture. Don't worry, you're not alone.
I did so too when posting my first pictures .

Thanks Daniel. At least we can now see it has nasal barbels, which rules out the Pimelodidae.
Still not an easy one. I'd go with Silurus: some kind of Chrysichthys.

Thanks, Do you know if has a more common name? Could I add any other fish with it in my tank? The tank dimensions are 76cm x 30cm x 30cm? There is a large Aquatic superstore not far from where I live, I could email them.

Looking at the links, the one I think it looks most like is the dorsal view on the Ictalurus punctatus. Thanks for your help.
