Please help!!
I've got naked catfish with what appears to be ick. I have stingrays in with them and need some help with suggestions on what medication to use. I know naked catfish(TSN/RTC Hybrid, Jaguar Cats, Bacu, Woodcats...etc) can be burned by medications. Please help ASAP I really would appreciate it.

Re: Please help!!
The best solution would be to separate the sick fish into a separate tank, and then medicate with a suitable medication (there are certainly Ich medicines out there that are suitable for catfish - ask the staff at the LFS and read the label before you leave the shop).

Re: Please help!!
Definately hospitalise the sick individual & treat with a recommended anti-white spot cure, raising the temperature at the same time - also monitor your main tank for further outbreaks. Ick (whitespot) takes a hold on fish that are stressed & weak. Ensuring a stress free environment & having strong healthy fish will prevent fish becoming sick, & always buy from quality reputable dealers & quarantine new purchases before introduction to main or display tanks

Re: Please help!!
If it appears to be ich, a picture would be handy. It may be something else.Koltsix wrote:I've got naked catfish with what appears to be ick
That's new for me. I know they sometimes react badly on medication, but you've lost me with that remark.Koltsix wrote:I know naked catfish(TSN/RTC Hybrid, Jaguar Cats, Bacu, Woodcats...etc) can be burned by medications.
How is the Jaguar by the way?

Re: Please help!!
You must treat the whole enviroment ..
It is no use removing a fish with a disease from the tank it only stresses them more
Plus it still leaves the disease in the tank even if you remove the fish ..
Try if you can get it Liquisil general tonic by interpet +1 teaspoon per aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water .
It works providing the water parameters are good ??
PH , Nitrite + Ammonia .
This has worked for me with Jags ,Tatias,Driftwoods .

Re: Please help!!
Ich parasites are present in all water (suitable for fishkeeping) - you don't need to leave a glass of water standing for very long. The difference is that healthy, unstressed individuals can resist the attacks.
However, I do agree that there is a risk that all the inhabitants of the tank may be affected, particularly if the actual cause is some stress factor like nitrite/ammonia spikes.

Re: Please help!!
If I recall correctly Coppersafe should be alright to use with catfish. I just re-read the label and it only warns against use with plants and inverts.

Re: Please help!!
I managed to successfully treat the ick by halving the store bought medication. The Jaguars are cured but aren't feeding well. They hide all the time, only one seems to feed, he does so only when moving from one hiding spot to another. I don't undestand it none of the other fish are hyper enough to disturb them(with the exception of the Woodcats who only become boisterous around feeding time). My water parameters are ideal. I check them twice a week my ammonia, nitrate and nitrite are at 0. My ph is at 6.8 and my water temp which I've heard is crucial to them feeding well is at 76-75 degrees fahrenhite. They have ample hiding spots so each could have his own, but instead the all hide huddled together. All my other fish are feeding well including 3 stingrays, 2 megalodoras, Hybrid, 2 woodacts and one bacu.
