Re: Help Please!!!!!!
You're right -it's not a great photo - we could really do with one of the entire fish showing barbel length, tail shape etc
It looks like some sort of Ariid but the location is wrong, but there are so many other possibilities, i couldn't say without a better pic, Maybe Silurus will chip in, as he is your best bet with only this limited pic

Re: Help Please!!!!!!
This species is common in large water bodies in the lowlands of India. I'm not surprised you caught it.

Re: Help Please!!!!!!
Im just surprised because the typical locality of this spcies is listed as Higher parts of Gangetic estuaries in its profile. I must say the colouring is quite gorgeous. Complete grey on the top and pure white on the underside. Eats anything edible, loves worms, will try to eat feeder fish without too much success and doesn like my Red Tail Rainbow Sharks at all.....

Re: Help Please!!!!!!
I think you have confused type locality with typical locality. The type locality is the location where the individual(s) on which the description is based is/are caught. A great many fish species are found in areas outside of the type locality.

Re: Help Please!!!!!!
Not to mention that sometimes the type location is not where the fish normally lives. I'm not sure if it was one the fishes you've described HH or someone else's description, that have a type location of "Market Place in ..." or something like that. Another example that I have seen is would be "Aquatic shop in ...", which also isn't where the fish can be found IN NATURE.Silurus wrote:I think you have confused type locality with typical locality. Re: Help Please!!!!!!
Oh yes. I did assume type locality meant habitat. Its actually good news then if the Gulio is found here. Thanks for correcting me.
