Just got a 2.8" long Paelatus cory.
Thought it might break the upper limit for size for the species, but no. . . exact same. He'll have fun in my 55 gallon blue tank.

Is that 2.8" TL or SL? If the former, it's still under the maximum size.

I'm not counting the tail fin.

Ah, then you mean standard length (SL, as opposed to total length, TL).
This would make it one of the largest, yes.

10 others in the tank, including a couple that are 2.5" long. (I really like the Paelatus personality, so if I see one or two in a tank by themselves I tend to buy 'em to put in my shoal. Usually the loners are bigger.) I've found that the Paelatus cories get along swimmingly with the Striata loaches I have in the tank. I'm watching them closely to make sure that there are no problems, and they're cohabitating great.
I just measured "Inappropriately Frightened" who is my pleco for the tank. He's up to 7" bigger than I thought. Possibly time to start thinking about moving him to a deeper tank.

Wow, he must be beautiful! I have a giant one but not as giant as that. She the one giving me all the babies. Maybe some of the offspring will be big guys too.
And my yoyos do tend to school with both the c.paleatus and the otos, I've even seen big Momma shove a loach off of a snail and take it away once the loach got it out. They're very wise corys too.

Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.

Definately likes the big tank. It was kinda sulking in the LFS tank, and perked right up once I got it home.

Re: Just got a 2.8" long Paelatus cory.
The show standard for C. paleatus here in the UK is 76 mm (3") SL for females and 70 mm for males (2.75"). I have seen them even larger, but they tend become somewhat misshapen when overly large.

I've seen a couple mishapen giants. . . that is one thing I like about the one I just picked up. He's perfectly shaped, with a good coloration. I'm fairly sure it is a male, given that it doesn't exhibit any of the roundness of my females.
