How to get my Cories to spawn?

Post by AlaskanCorydoras »

I have some rather bulbous females, both Paelatus and Aenus cories. I'd like to encourage them to spawn, and hopefully collect the eggs. Any advice?

Hi AlaskanCorydoras,

Mine usually get going when I make it "rain"....cooler water and softer water from my rain barrels. Snow if it's handy. How mature are your males? Some people use a week of live food before they do the big water change.

Here's a fabulous article on spawning C. paleatus  http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworl ... +On+Demand I have about 13 2mm babies of those swimming around the bottom of my tank at the moment - I had absolutely nothing to do with these little fellows appearing! Apparently once they get going, they're harder to stop than they are to start.
Racing, shoes and fish. Nothing else matters. Oh, and bacon.

my peppered cories always were doing it. Continually. I kept their tank cooler and fed them defrosted bloodworms and tubifex and shrimp and everything. Plus sinking carnivore tabs and sinking shrimp pellets. They had sand substrate and caves and driftwood and real plants. Unknown if that helps.

No access to snow this time of year. For that matter, no access to night. (Curse you Daystar!!) I could soften the water and lower the temperature though. The males are at least 6 months old. . . as that is how long I've had most of this batch of cories.
