FERTILE PANDA CORY EGGS??????

Post by Babyruby »

I have 10 panda eggs in my guppy and swordtail fry tank, they have been there for a few days now and the inside of the eggs have gone black while the outside is still the tan creamy colour.

ARE THESE FERTILE?????

most likely yes

many catfish eggs turn darkish when developing, I would assume my C paleatus and your C panda develop more or less similarly

That's awesome, Thank you for that, I was sure they were fertile as others they have laid have turned white being that they were not fertile and these ones have gone black, but wanted to double check.....

Yay now to keep an eye out for babies......

In my experience Panda eggs do go black if they are fertile as they develop.

If I were you I would remove them now to a separate hatching container as they will be eaten by your other fish as soon as they hatch.

I am now the proud mummy of one baby panda cory so far.............YAY.....

The fish that are in with them are bout the same size as this baby, they are baby guppies and swordtails, so no chance of getting eaten....

The live bearer young will grow much faster and are more voracious feeders than the C. panda and at first Corydoras fry are really larvae, very poor at obtaining food if there is any serious competition and the larvae are still very delicate. They aren't very likely to survive and should be raised isolated in some way from the other fish. Preferably in their own aquarium using the water from the tank they were spawned in. It may take them up to 3 weeks to under go complete metamorphosis into their characteristic adult form as small juveniles.

You will soon discover this for yourself so maybe you can prepare for a planned spawning project in the future.
