Syno listed at LFS as pl*co

Post by andywoolloo »

Just posting these for a member of http://www.tetra-forum.com with her permission

Possible euptera or euptera hybrid or maybe nigriventris or mix of that ...unknown. It looks vaguely similar to either of those but something about the nose and colour, altho the colour could just be lighting or flash.

She bought it listed as a pl*co.

Yeah, right. Not even the right continent. Either the person assisting with the purchase didn't know what they were catching - which is entirely possible in some places, or the one writing the label had no clue - which is also entirely possible. But it's not unlikely that the shop had "one left" and didn't have a label at all for that fish, and when the assistant looked for a likely candidate for "how much to charge", the closest was a pleco. Hopefully the "pleco" was a low-cost common, as it doesn't look (to my untrained eyes) as a really expensive Syno.

I'll third that- I'm not great on synos but it definitely looks like a subadult euptera- at least it's not a hybrid.
