Reproduction in Syno. decora?
Does anyone know ANYTHING about their reproduction?
I have seen two of mine cram into the same tunnel (bamboo section with no ends) several times now, and they may be fighting in there, or just having a good time... I'm under no illusion that it would be a miracle if they breed in my tank, but it made me wonder what the breeding behaviour actually is...

how exciting! maybe yours are very happy and pre spawning behaviour! or having a bit of a tustle?
I have read that they are non guarding open water egg scatterers. per fishbase. It also says they are oviparous (?) and they form distinct pairs during breeding.

I think they are a very beautiful syno. Most sites say no breeding info. Maybe you'll be the lucky one!

I think any actual spawning act would be in the open with the 2 fish locked in a head to tail clinch , but there may be some pair bond preliminaries (as i assume if it happens often there is no aggression and they could chose to use different hiding places if they wanted to)

Yeah, considering I'm one of the very few that has more than a single fish, that may be part of the problem...
So, they lay eggs! And form pairs. The first isn't particularly helpful, but the second is.
Knowing WHEN they spawn would be good - during dry or wet season? Do they migrate (I've seen some reports of that...)

I'm automatically assuming start of the wet season for spawning

Re: Reproduction in Syno. decora?
I agree, wet season is the MOST likely, but that's not to say it IS the season for spawning...

Re: Reproduction in Syno. decora?
My thoughts would be the schools of adults make spawning runs into the shallow flooded areas of the river or lakes they inhabit. I do not think they would actually pair off for any extended length of time.
