PlanetCatfish day out 2010!

Post by Jools »

All~

Date for the diary in May. We're aiming for hitting the usual places on Sunday 16th May. I'd suggest we'd be in BAS for around 11ish.

Anyone coming?

Yup, as long as you pay for the airfare to Heathrow, I'd be happy to take you to BAS, etc, and back to Heathrow!

BAS = Britains Aquatics Superstore, Bolton.
http://www.britains-aquatic.co.uk/

By the way, does anyone want to have a plan, or shall we just turn up at BAS and take it as we go along. Having a plan would allow others to join up along the way.

I have never bought any fish from there, but they inevitably have some unusual stock. And a very nice cafe - nice baps with bacon, eggs, and such, which is a good when you are a bit hungry after driving for several hours!

And if we do the usual thing, it's then followed by Pier and Aqualife - the latter is a tiny shop and oldfashioned, but usually have some unusual stuff in stock. Pier is just one of the most amazing place you'll ever enter. The combination of stock and price, along with Neils helping hand in figuring what's boys and girls on the plecos is always good.

I'll be there. Certainly for BAS 11am and Pier. Aqualife is also very good - I bought 3 2" jaguars from there a couple of months ago, they are growing really fast and are now about 4".

Yes Pier can be awesome, I stop there on my way home from Cumbria sometimes but last time I went there wasn't anything particularly caught my eye.

Hello all,
Shane here logged in as Jools since I am in his kitchen using his laptop. We will be there Sunday. We could arrive BAS circa 1100-1130. Everyone good for that as a starting time and place?

Shane,

Glad to see that you made it over here - was a bit worried with the Ash Clouds affecting flights all over the place that last few days.

Yes, BAS around 11 is what I'm planning for.

Excellent. We will be leaving around 7:30, so I think 11:30 or so. I came home to some baby barbs, and spent all morning this morning with Shane in the fishroom, so great times!

Cheers,

I've just put the last fish into their new tank.

I ended up with 1x L128 female to improve the breeding chances. My current group has two males and one (likely) female, rather than the 2 females that was the original plan...

Then I got an male to replace the one that I found dead my tank the other week...

And finally, a group of very small . I'm splitting this group with Martin S, but I will try to grow them out a bit so we can see what's what first.

Edit: And it was great seeing all who turned up. Will post the group photo from outside Aqualife...

Hi All ,sorry I missed you but had to be elsewhere (Interzoo Nuremburg)
Particular apologies to Shane as it would have been great to have a chat again and we dont see you that often.
Hope you had a great day .
Mats ..L264 the shipper packed only the 6 in a full box and you would not believe the increases in the costs now from Brazil
You will start to see the prices increase from there dramatically.
Hope we see you again soon

All,
I am safe and sound in Kampala again. Best part was that there were four passengers (and three were my wife, daughter and myself) on our 767 from London to Entebbe. British Airways must have really lost a ton of money on that flight as the crew outnumbered passengers two to one. I probably could have brought back Jools as a carry on! All "goodies" made it here safe and sound. Most amazingly... after being gone for three weeks I did not have a single loss in the fishroom that I have been able to detect.
It was great to hang out with Mats, Tony, and Richard and a shame to have missed Neil... but at least I did not miss his shop!
