Re: Democracy gone wrong
I think there's a wow factor we all enjoy when we see new and rare species in the shops. Pier gets those fish in stock so lots of us on PC go there, it seems?
I have seen a fair few shops but not all on the list. I haven't been to Rare, yet.

When are you going to start doing so?Mongo wrote:Now as a fish keeper who is a bit fanatical I enjoy being in a fishy environment, talking fish.
Neil, where art thou? I know you have much more serious things to attend to, but this guy is ruining your reputation imo.

Re: Democracy gone wrong
On the voting, I have seen in more than one shop that they ask every customer to fill out a voting form at the till and the shop will actually post it for them. Good on them I say. It results in excellent marketing for them which generates more cash flow and stock turnover, allowing them to stock more unusual species. The shop and the customers who voted for them all win. Other shops may choose to follow alternative marketing strategies. That is up to them.

I don't fully agree. First of all to Shane
The only time we met you were with Jools, Neil was away on one of his trips, this was explained to Jools, who I understand is a good friend yours. I remember showing you behind the scenes at Pier. I think, well I know I asked you to vent some L128's for MatsP. At that time it was also mentioned that while Neil was away I'd help out. These days being retired I help out a bit more, as does Bob (also retired), Kev who works has also given his time free of charge.
The suggestion of brown nosing, as you seldom visit the shop I think maybe more applicable to yourself, as unless I'm wrong you have got this from hearsay. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
As for questioning whether this site is going to become commercial, now or sometime in the future only time will tell. Some people will not care, others may, but life goes on. Lets just say that people who donate to Oxfam, The Red Cross etc who rely on donations, perhaps the the people who donated may be a little aggrieved if their donations were used to create a commercial enterprise. I may have misunderstood the approach to Maidenhead Aquatics, who knows there may have been no commercial motivation about it.
Now Jools the VHS, Betamax analogy with fish shops, no comparison, one being objective and the other subjective.
As for the Sidguppy comments, a school teacher from what I recall, again I could be wrong, bold type, you can underline, shouting, if this is your approach, so be it, a fine example.
Now Marc, none of this has been orchestrated, but Neil and I are still good mates. As for reputation, I guess I'll never be on your Christmas card list.
A comment about am I concerned about Jools becoming rich, I hope he does, or he may already be so. I like people being succesful. How they get there is another matter.
Bye for now

Re: A few replies
I think Shane's suggestion was a logical point *if* you were an employee of Pier Aquatics - so not hearsay and you have now said that you are not an employee of Pier Aquatics. At the time the relationship was unclear (you've served both Shane and myself in the shop). And you've since cleared that all up.Mongo wrote:The suggestion of brown nosing, as you seldom visit the shop I think maybe more applicable to yourself, as unless I'm wrong you have got this from hearsay. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
So, you seem to want to put people off donating to PlanetCatfish by repeatedly bringing this up, sorry if I've interpreted that incorrectly. If I have, let me know what the "a little aggrieved" is in relation to? I'd just like this all to go away in truth - I don't quite understand it. But if I've messed something up I'd like the opportunity to fix it if possible.Mongo wrote:Lets just say that people who donate to Oxfam, The Red Cross etc who rely on donations, perhaps the the people who donated may be a little aggrieved if their donations were used to create a commercial enterprise.
To use your Red Cross analogy, I wouldn't care if the money I donated was used to save a life soon after I donated it - I would be bothered if it was used to line some fat cats pocket. I think this is the central point that you are missing. Over the years I've spent a lot of my own cash just simply on the infrastructure to run this site. Every dollar donated goes to offset that loss. And, in all truth, it's a quite a loss even without taking into account time spent. To be crystal clear, I am only talking about hosting cost alone. People have donated and thus lessened the amount of hard cash I've spent - thank you all for your positive actions!
Dave, you donate your time to Pier Aquatics without being paid to help out. If Neil then sells Pier next year, are you due something? IMHO, no. You've enjoyed your fish time at Pier. Donors to this site have enjoyed talking catfish since 1997. Seems the same to me (except I am running at a loss).
I suspect you are pretty much alone in the view that donating to PlanetCatfish has risk. Maybe we need a "donate a dollar if you don't agree with Mongo" campaign.

You did, that has nothing to do with your sale of Planet myth.Mongo wrote:I may have misunderstood the approach to Maidenhead Aquatics
It seems all your posts detract from positivity around here. Look, I really don't get why this and other opinions are all coming up. Maybe you could clarify the question I asked above (twice now) about "support" of Pier Aquatics. In absence of that, I don't know what else I can add here.

you really don't have a clue, do you?As for the Sidguppy comments, a school teacher from what I recall, again I could be wrong, bold type, you can underline, shouting, if this is your approach, so be it, a fine example.
bold or underlining is not considered shouting.
shouting on the internet is done by HITTING THE CAPSLOCK or shift
now, reread my post again and point where I did shout, plox; you won't find it, because i didn't shout.
and as long as you bring in my profession:
yes, I am a teacher. biology, highschool.
and as anyone who's into teaching knows; it's not all the soft, political correct approach
most of the time, us teachers can be some sort of a DIY Albert Einstein; and we try patiently to make our pupils learn.
however!
sometimes we run into headstrong, stubborn, obnoxious, whiney, bad mannered brats who flat-out refuse to listen to reason and desperately need to be disciplined....
brats like this Mongo person; who really goes on and on and on, overstaying his welcome by a lightyear, insulting the host of this site, in short; Mongo behaves like a perfect schoolbook (!) model Party Pooper.
then i take a leaf out of someone else's book! like him:

"you my hate me, but the more you hate me; the more you will learn!"
Mongo, because you don't know anything about Netiquette at all (confusing bold and underlined with capslock) and mixing up perseverance with a prime example of bad manners, I'll teach you something
because that's my job, isn't it?
forum troll
you might learn something.
although don't blame me if you don't, I'm not holding my breath.
Lex out.

Hi Jools,
I would just lock this thread down as "Business concluded."
It is going nowhere and is annoying too.
I have contributed to help make planetcatfish ends meet as best as I could. So much for free and people complain?

Indeed. I don't think Jools has any more explaining to do.apistomaster wrote:I would just lock this thread down as "Business concluded."
I for one have no problem in how the site is run. If Mongo doesn't like it for whatever reason, there is a simple solution: just stop visiting.

Re: Democracy gone wrong
This is now the nastiest thread i have ever read on this site. I thought it was dead and buried 10days ago...
Its not good for PC, never mind Pier!
Perhaps certain cretins should stick to fish-related threads only ( WISHING!!!) to control the nasty little brat inside them!

Re: Democracy gone wrong
Whilst I agree that this thread has probably had it's time, it would be fair to give Mongo a chance to answer the direct questions that Jools asked. If that wasn't the case, I would have locked this thread already. Perhaps we can all, except Mongo, pretend that this thread _IS_ locked.
