ANCISTRUS LINEOLATUS:advise needed
ANCISTRUS LINEOLATUS:advise needed
Hi guys
I got a trio of adult (10cm +) ancistris lineolatus 1f 2m.
I can't find specific info on this species..does any1 have information on them and their water conditions? I am thinking of adding them to a container outdoors..here in Cape Town we have nice warm days..but the night temperatures vary..I can run a heater or 2 if required..how hard are these guys to breed?

Given that there isn't a picture, and no registered keepers of this species, I'd expect that no one on here has bred them... ;)
Further, I'm not entirely convinced that your ID is correct. Could you post a photo?
Do you know where it was exported from?
What makes you say they are A. lineolatus?

I did find a breeding report here (I was really looking to find some pictures that can be reasonably confirmed that they ARE A. lineolatus - the only ones I have found so far are the ones by Kyle Luckenbill on the ACSI image database, and they aren't looking that great either...):

However, I'm far from convinced it's really A. lineolatus being bred in the report.
The fish in the picture looks like one of the many "dark colour with small white spots".

Yes, and doesn´t "lineolatus" mean something like "belted" or "lined".MatsP wrote:The fish in the picture looks like one of the many "dark colour with small white spots".

Indeed. The question of course is if those "lines" are the "stress pattern" or a pattern in the light and dark colouration of the fish when "relaxed".
