L213 turning off the spots?

I just picked up a pair of fish that someone bought from a local importer. I've been in contact with the importer, and all he can tell me is that the fish came from Brazil. I know L213 is already hard enough to ID, but the two fish I bought don't have spots. I've never kept one of the spotted BNs (though I've had many of the Common BN strains) - is it common for them to lose their spots? When I picked them up, it looked like they may have larger spots very sparsely distributed on the body (like the lighter spots 'under' the white spots on the last pic in the Cat-eLog), but even those are gone now. The importer did say that they had small spots evenly distributed over the body when they came in.
Also, if these were regular BNs, I'd say they were definitely both male, as both have at least a few decent 'bristles' on the snout; but, one definitely has more, so I'm hoping that these are just one of those Ancistrus where both sexes bristle up at least a bit.

Currently they're in my tank at work which is quite warm (30C), but has lots of flow and aeration, They will be going home next week to a tank that will be closer to 26C. Maybe it's just too warm for them to show their spots?

i have 8 sub adults and they have small white spots. they are not as pronounced as say a l183 though. they also get splotchy at night

Has anyone ever heard of the spotted Ancistrus losing or fading out thier spots before?

I'm going to be setting up a tank that's 36"x15" footprint with 9

L134

and a good amount of flow. Would this pair do well in that tank (avg. temp is probably 84-86F), or would it be better to move them to a tank that is closer to 78-80F?
