C. Trilineatus midget fry/retarded fry

Post by cinnamonsticks »

Greetings!

I have a fry who is over four months old and had some issues. The baby stopping growing with his pack of siblings. They have since been rehomed! The baby became lethargic and frequents the surface often for air. The other corydoras in the tank do not frequent the surface. Three weeks ago the baby floated upside down at the surface for a few minutes and I was pretty sure that he was on his deathbed. The baby's barbels are also on the shorter side. The other corys barbels are just fine.

Now days, the baby frequents the surface less and acts normal.

BUT...... he is barely growing. The other fry in the photos is just over two months old. The two month old has a broken middle line down the sides of the body, and the older baby has a solid line. The two month old has caught up to the older baby in size. Will the older baby ever grow up?

Thank you!

Agree with Darrel. These are two different species. The Habrosus is almost adult size to me, has smaller barbels and has different behaviour than Trilineatus!! They are laying / resting a lot !!!

Hi all,

Sorry honest mistake. I think the smaller trilineatus type Corydoras looks OK.

Hahahaha sorry !!! Trilineatus has seceral "appearances" so line isn't strange. Smaller size (could be a male) but it also (together with smaller barbels ) could have been somekind of nutricial shortage. Did appear with some of my Aeneusfry in an earlier case. They didn't recover. Now I feed fry longer three / four times a day. None of the fry is having similar problems as earlier.

I know the different species. The two C. trilineatus fry are different ages. The older fry (4.5 months old) is very small for his age. I was told by one of our club members that the fry may not grow and could be culled. If the fry does not grow, I will just keep it in my tank.

The older fry had five other siblings that he grew up with, they were re homed last month and they were more than DOUBLE the size of the midget.

The smaller fry is 2.5 months old, and is growing as expected.
