ALFBN issue

Post by southsideemokid »

So I gave one of my juvi ALFBN to a friend for her 10G. The tankmates were 3 male platty's. Well the 3 platty's slowly died and now all that is left is the ALFBN. The tank temp was 80* although the heater was set at 74*. I told her to do about a 25% WC although she did a 50% the week before. I also told her to remove the heater to try to get the temp down.

She said the ALFBN now appears to have red patches on it's back and fins. I do not know what the water parameters are in her tank.

Here is a pic of the fish last week eating zuccini.

Here are pics today. there are red blitches on the back, and the edge of the fins.

Hmm, have you done a water chemistry test (ammonia/nitrite/nitrate)? Also perhaps test for pH and kH.

Generally red blotches or red fins are a sign of either internal haemorrhaging or bacterial infection (ie: septicaemia), and both these 2 problems are usually due to a primary problem ie: wrong water parameters. so yeah, can't really say much else without knowing the water stuff:P

Whilst I agree that checking the water condition and that the filtration is working, I think what you are seeing [from what I can see from the pictures] looks like a perfectly normal albino bristlenose with long fins.
