gram negative bacterial infection
i have a wild caught syno-nigromaculatus around 5 inch long and he has a milky clouding on the inner pupil/lense of both eyes .
i have been on a few medical web site for fish treatments and i have been advised to use KANAMYCIN or GENTAMYCIN but this only seems to be available in the USA and i have been informed if i ship it over it could be confiscated by our customs as it is not allowed in the uk.
CAN ANYONE ADVISE OR SELL ME SOME HERE IN THE UK ? :
is there a cure here in the uk for negative gram bacterial infections.
just to confirm the milky clouding is inside the eye only in the centre pupil part no other part and the outside of the eye is normal ,
he is feeding well and actually the tank bully with the other multipuncs, nyassa, polli cats very often chasing them around the tank rocks etc.
thanks

Re: gram negative bacterial infection
Those are both antibiotics. You should be able to get one or the other of them (legally) from a vet if you explain what it's for.
You will need to treat the fish in quarantine because antibiotics are rough on filter bacteria.

No antibiotics can be bought legally over the counter here because of the potential for misuse. Kanamycin is used a lot in scientific research so if you know someone who works in a biosciences or medical facility they might be able to give you some.

Why use anti biotic? IME anything to do with the eyes is water related .
How do you know its a bacterial infection?
Just let nature take its course, Keep the water good its eyes will come right .
It takes time,
Also you can improve things for it by the addition of Iodine to the tank.
You can buy this over the counter .
One of natures fish cures that wont rub out your good bacteria.

Re: gram negative bacterial infection
he was like this when i bought him over 2 years ago ,
i have tried all kinds of UK treatments and nothing works ,the water he is in has regular changes and tests and he is with 4 other lake tang catfish and none of the others are effected so i know its not my water conditions !
anyway i have a friend in the states who is going to get some kanamycin for me and ship it over to me so i will keep you posted next month.

Re: gram negative bacterial infection
Have you tried Waterlife Myxazin? It's very good at treating bacterial infections, and doesn't harm the filter bacteria. The last time I used it was to clear up a nasty ulcer on a friend's kid's goldfish.
