Difference between L144 and ABN ??

Post by cajungator »

I know the L144 has blue/dark eyes and the ABN has red eyes.
But, is there any other difference between these two?
Are they different species?
Thanks, any information would be helpfull.

The fish sold as L144 in the US is the same species as those sold as albino. As to differences, there is also a visible spotted pattern on the albinos and more even golden color (sometimes even light orange depending on condition)on the L144.

The fish sold as L144 is , where the true is not found in the trade at all. And yes, the main difference is the eye colour. Whether they truly are the same species or not, I'm not entirely sure. The "false L144" doesn't appear to grow as big as the common bristlenose (, formerly known as sp(3)), which makes me think it may not be the same species - but they appear to cross breed freely, and genetic analysis by Rupert (racoll) showed that they are at least closely related. There are some Ancistrus DNA analysis showing dramatic differences, but that doesns't mean that other species aren't very close...
