Non valid spp update new entries
As I'm not allowed to delete spp, here's a list of at least doubtful spp I've come across while adding synonyms.
Comments welcome. If someone decides to delete a species, pls also delete it from this posting, so in the end the posting itself can be deleted as well.

Re: Non valid spp update new entries
Just a further note on process, don't assume that if I accept a data submission for these then that means I think it's valid or not valid. It's just easier to accept ones and get the submission done before it is moved around (potentially).

Re: Non valid spp update new entries
I think it makes sense to have a running species inquirendae thread.
Mónica S. Rodriguez; Christian A. Cramer; Sandro L. Bonatto; Roberto E. Reis (2008)
Neotrop. ichthyol. vol.6 no.3 Porto Alegre 2008
Taxonomy of Ixinandria Isbrücker & Nijssen (Loricariidae: Loricariinae) based on morphological and molecular data
"We conclude that the populations are not significantly distinct and do not deserve separate species recognition, and we place I. montebelloi in the synonymy of I. steinbachi."

Re: Non valid spp update new entries
I am not finding the paper that invalidated the following:
Leiocassis crassirostris Regan, 1913
Liocassis crassirostris Regan, 1913b: 552. Type locality: Kiatiang-fu, Sze Chuen, China. Syntypes (2): BMNH
1891.6.13.23.
Distribution: Sichuan, China.
Catelog of Fishes notes:
Current status: Valid as Leiocassis crassilabris Regan 1913. Bagridae. Distribution: Sichuan, China. Habitat: freshwater.
Fishbase also includes it as valid.
I am aware of HH's 2005 paper restricting Leiocassis to L. aculeatus, L. collinus, L. hosii, L. micropogon, L. poecilopterus, and L. tenebricus, but subsequent literature (Ferrearis 2007) did not restrict the genus.
Is there a post 2007 paper I am not finding? I realize that there is a distinct possibility that I am.

Re: Non valid spp update new entries
Limatulichthys petleyi (Fowler, 1940)
Loricaria punctata Regan, 1904b: 285, pl. 17 (fig. 1). Type locality: Manaos, Rio Negro, middle Amazon, and Porto
do Moz, lower Amazon. Syntypes: BMNH 1893.4.24.18, and at MCZ. Preoccupied by Loricaria punctata
Kner, 1854 [now Pterygoplichthys punctatus], apparently not replaced.
Rhineloricaria petleyi Fowler, 1940a: 243, figs. 36–38. Type locality: Ucayali River basin, Contamana, Peru. Holotype:
ANSP 68661.
Loricariichthys parnahybae Fowler, 1941a: 161, figs. 69–71. Type locality: Rio Parnahyba, Therizina, Piauhy [Brazil].
Holotype: ANSP 69451.
Distribution: Amazon, Tocantins and Parnaíba River basins (Ferraris, 2003c).
Removed from the synonymy of Limatulichthys griseus (Eigenmann, 1909) by Isbrücker (2001) and this decision supported by Ferraris (2007). Was there a later paper placing it back in synonymy?

Re: Non valid spp update new entries
Just a wee note to say that, irrespective of outcome, this is great to dig into and each entry should have some of the detail recorded in it. Five years hence we will all have forgotten the why and why nots of each case.
