Ancistrus Brevifilis?

Post by Vess »

Hi everyone.

When I put my Brevifilis onto the "my cats" log, it says I am the only keeper!

Surely not??

They were sold to me by a breeder here in the UK but would you guys say they are a different species?

Thanks for the help

is restricted to the Rio Tuy system in northern Venezuela. Exports of fishes from Venezuela have been illegal for many years. As far as I know the only specimens photographed in aquaria were the ones I caught and kept while living there from 2000-2002. They do show up in occasion in Caracas pet stores for the local aquarium trade from time to time, so I am sure there are some Venezuelan aquarists that are keeping them.

I think we can say with a fair amount of certainty that are not available outside Venezuela.

Have you taken a look at ? It may be your fish.

Hi Shane

Thanks for the info, I know the breeder (Ste Chester - sells a lot on ebay) said he got these in - wild caught - but with the knowledge you provided I can see why he might be mistaken.

The fish you provided could well be it, they are still pretty small so I will definitely be monitoring the patterns as it grows :)

Thanks again.
