8 hours, where are you?!?! :-) I've done the run from Inverness to Wigan a couple of times which is about 6 and a half hours. My time is pretty pressured too, but I can certainly spare it for this convention. I've flown from Inverness and Aberdeen to Manchester and Birmingham - short flights although there is not great times - cheaper than driving in most cases I'd think (unless you factor in the ~£25 to get a photocard licence which you can use to fly).

Personally I see it as an investment. It is the best catfish convention globally and you will simply not get that experience anywhere else. The US catfish convention is the nearest thing and that does take about 10 hours to get to from Scotland!

West Coast Scotland Arran to be bang on 1hr ferry each way pending weather and usually 4hrs and a bit each way even to get to Blackpool.
So trust me travelling aint good, Glasgow 1hr from coast to airport and roughly same to prestwick ,Aberdeen just under 4 hrs from me not including ferries.
So it aint practical for us simply as that

I guess it's all relative but 8 or 9 hours travel across 3 or 4 days isn't a long journey in my book (but then I commute to Bathgate to Bristol or London most weeks). More "normal" then I am thinking of Allan James for example that goes every year to the convention from Dunoon (including ferry). Just my opinion of course, but I think you might be underestimating the total value of attending the convention. The talks are only part of it.

And, of course, we'd all like to meet another catfish guy.

With such total negativity I am at a loss as to why you actually posted in the first place.

I put a lot of time and effort organising this event and I even organise pick-ups for traveling delegates that make the effort to come from a lot farther than the Isle of Arran.

Still if you are so bored with traveling may be you would like to join the CSG, [http://www.catfishstudygroup.org/member ... ership.htm] then you will get a full report of the event in the groups magazine, failing that you may just get a few little snippets of what you missed.

I'd love to take part (from Switzerland, even if it means flying, and I hate flying...)

but I'm unable to have a precise view of this time... mainly cause of my baby boy (6 months old) and his mum, who are both quite demanding :d

I'll try to manage a "permission" :YMDEVIL: :))

I'll keep in touch soon...

There has been a slight change in speaker line up for the CSG 2013 convention.
Due to an irresistible work opportunity Hans-Georg Evers has had to withdraw. However all is still good as our good friend Ingo Seidel has agreed to step in and take his place with two brand new talks.

As in previous years, we will be putting on the popular Breeders Award Programme display, and CSG-member sales tanks. The BAP display is free for registered members to display their successful breeding efforts, 10 tanks available (limited to 2 tanks per member). The sales tanks are available to members also, to offer your surplus breeding stock, at the bargain price of £5 per tank (limited to 1 tank per member). All tanks have mature-sponge filtration and heating available, just add water (and fish!). Details are in the link to the CSG forum below.

If you haven't booked your place at the the best Catfish event of the year, then you need to get a move on.

There will be no problems for day visitors, but if you want to stay for the full package there are very few rooms left so don't delay book your place today.

Good luck with your talk Jools.

Thanks to everyone involved in the 2013 CSG Convention - a great success.

Quick list of some of the catfish on offer at the venue, from breeders in the U.K., Canada, USA and Europe:
L400, L398, L397, L71, L183, L134, L144, L211, LDA01, L66, L340, Ancistrus claro, A. sp 'red', Corydoras cochui, C. carlae, C. sterbai (Bolivian form), Scleromystax kronei, S. prionotus,CW024, C090, C035, CW030, CW021, CW010. All at ridiculously low prices, many not available in shops.

In addition to picking up L398 and L340 from the venue, I bought 5 each of species and from Aqualife. Unfortunately i didn't get to Pier over the weekend - too busy taking new CSG memberships to get out and about much. I'll make a special trip in a week or two!

See you all next year!

It was one of the best in years, a great combination of science, learning, sharing, great pics and fun. Some beer was also had at at the best venue in the history of the event. Maybe someone can post some pics? There are already some on facebook but not everyone wishes to be there.

I didn't get to Pier either and I missed out. I talked with a few others about a day-out in the near future - perhaps we could all organise it on the same day? We not had a Planet day-out for a few years now...
