C. trilineatus

Greetings!

I have a pair of C. trilineatus in my 29 gallon along with...

4 C. Metae
3 C. Aeneus
8 C. Pygmaeus
2 Otocinclus vestitus
5 male guppies
1 Dwarf gourami
1 Betta
6 RCS + two week old babies (I have no idea how many)

I have a lot of plants.

The C. trilineatus pair are leaving eggs all over the plants. I managed to snip some leaves and put them into a two way breeder box. She is hiding them well and they are difficult for me to find. Any advice is appreciated. They spawned a few weeks ago and I saw two eggs that disappeared 3 days later, probably eaten.

If your objective is to save as much cory eggs, it is best to separate the pair in a 10 Gal tank. You can use less furniture, sand is enough since they love to dig in. Keep them in there until they are done spawning. Good luck.

Two of the three eggs I put into the breeder box were "duds" and I took them out for my roommate for her microscope collection. One egg has a baby fish in it! I saw him move! In a few hours, it will be four days since his laying. I am hoping to see him hatch today, because I have work tomorrow >< I am excited and I hope I can keep him alive. There is a slim chance that there are others in the tank...

Hi,

you could also try to put some Java moss, most corys including C. trilineatus place quite a lot of eggs in this plant. Inside the eggs are quite well protected. After the spawning ended you can collect the Java moss including eggs and separate them.
Alternatively you can also use spawning mops.

I had one fry live to be just shy of two weeks and the other two lived one day. They all passed at once. I've been advised to feed richer foods to the parents.

I am pretty bummed out, still. They passed on Sunday.

Yes I have. Great information!

Both groups of parents reside in a planted 29. I collect the eggs and move them to a 2.5, no substrate, heater and air stone. After hatching, the newborns go to the 5.5 with sand, sponge filter, and a heater.

I plan on setting up a 30L soon and moving the fry from the 5.5 to the 30 until rehoming.

I was keeping the fry in the 2.5 longer and putting food in with the eggs... DON'T DO THAT!! The food + eggs combination = poor hatch rates and many fry deaths.

I was moving the newborns to a fry box in the parent tank... It did not do well for me. I am having much more success with the 5.5. I will soon be overrun with corydoras.
