I don't know exactly what is going on here, but this name doesn't exist in either Catalog of fishes, Fishbase or Seegers' Catfish of Africa.
I'm sort of suspecting it's supposed to be Malapterurus melanochir, and someone [probably me] copied it wrong from whatever source it came from. [Although the photo is added by Jools]

You could leave this with me I have the Roberts and Norris revisions in front of me, you are right it probably is melanochir...lets hear from @Jools, like you said he added the pic and it is from a reliable source and it is a Congo fish.
I can get the other species in the Cat-e-Log as well.
