Re: synodontis lucipinnis egg size
Thanks for the replys. I plan on doing a modified trap like the marble trap, with a screened space at the bottom. We noticed the lucipinnis get more active just before a spawn. Hopefully I'll be ready when the next spawn occurs.

synodontis lucipinnis egg size
I saw my synodontis lucipinnis spawn again in my cat tank. The other fish went into a feeding frenzy. I've been working with my synodontis multipunctata, and have gotten little cats from them. So far the best spawn I got was 32, with 28 surviving. Now, I think I'm ready to try the synodontis ...

Not sure on the grandiops. I thought they were harder to come by. I also thought they were much lighter in color.

Here is a better pic of the breeding group of multies out with some big loaches. Weather front moving in. Everyone is out playing.

Cats just don't sit still to get a good pic. The bascket are new ones a few weeks old. By the clay pot are from the group of 17. The group of 17 are about 1 1/2" long. The new ones are about 3/4" long. New group has 11 in them.

Syno Multies finally found a freindly host.
My Synodontis Multipunctata finally found a good host. I tried my OB peacocks, and they are working great. The male will sit there and let the cats swim all over him. When breeding, he will chase a little but not much. The females look the spawning rock over carefully to get every egg. 2 months ago ...

Re: Synodontis multipunctatus setup?
I've heard 3-5 years before they breed. The idea of terracotta pots and saucers, I believe, is just more dark cover for the cats. They feel safe when they have plenty of cover. Some mbuna, and most peacocks and haps won't go in dark blind caves, in my experience. They prefer something to swim thru ...

Re: Synodontis multipunctatus setup?
I'm new to syno multies also. I've been trying for a little over a year. My tank, I have plenty of pvc caves for the cats to hide in. They feel at home all over the tank. When the host male gets mad, the cats can dart into a cave and hide in a fraction of a second. I have my "spawning rock" right in ...

I see I have about 12-15 wigglers this morning. I think I'll go with the frozen baby brine shrimp. Hopefully I'll get a good turn out on this batch. Next time I order food, I may try the decapsulated brine shrimp eggs.

Re: Ick & Synodontis
I got ick in my tank over Christmas. I went with the mild salt and heat treatment. About 2 tbs. of salt per 5 gal water and slowly brought the temp up to 86 degrees. I took my time raising the temp over a 2 day period. Held the temp there for 10 days. I did water changes about every 2-3 days. This ...

Feeding egg yolk.
I happen to watch my syno multis spawn with some peacocks. I was able to keep the fish away before the eggs got eaten. I think I have about 2 dozen cat eggs. I'm curious if anyone has fed hard boiled egg yolk (chicken) to syno multi fry. I thought of starting these on frozen baby brine shrimp. I ...

Synodontis hybrid???
I picked up three little cats at a swap today. They are about 2 1/2" long. No one knew what they were. We guessed a hybrid of some sort of Synodontis. I looked at the Synodontis pics. The closest I could find was Synodontis sp. hybrid(5). Curious if anyone has seen these. They don't quite have the ...

Re: feeding syno multies
Nice surprise today. While doing water changes, I decided to catch the host peacock and strip any fry. She spit out 6 little syno multies! She never picked up cat eggs before, this is her first time. Three of these are twice as big as the three I had left from the egg trap. That makes nine little ...

Re: feeding syno multies
Well for starters, I have 3 pigs and a runt left. I still don't have a hap. that will pick up the eggs. I'm still using an egg trap. It's similar to what you use for syno petros but it has a flat slate on top to get the haps/peacocks to spawn on. Since the fish wont pick up the cat eggs, they simply ...

feeding syno multies
I have 7 new wigglers this morning in a tumbler. Instead of throwing the host eggs in, I'm going to try frozen baby brine shrimp to get them started. How long should I wait? Should I wait another day (day 5 counting the spawn) or should I start tonight? Tonight after work will be 12-18 hours after ...

Syno Multi host fish
I have a small school of Synodontis multipunctata. I have gotten a few small cats from them. I've been trying a couple different fish, haps and peacocks. What are some of the better host fish to use? I just threw in some 5+" acei. They spawned last week. The cats were all over them. I'll check on ...

He has slowed down in his growing. He's being fed fish food now. Belly isn't as swollen and full as it has been.

Re: Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
At day 16, the little cat is almost 1" long. He has eaten around 25-30 eggs/fry. I had to move him to a fry basket. The fry in the basket are about 3-4 weeks older than the multi cat.

Re: Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
I'm amazed at how fast this syno multi grows. I only have the one multicat fry. This picture is at 12 days. I can see whole fry is his stomach. I think I'll leave him in the tumbler until all fry are gone.

Re: Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
I've been trying to get my syno multies to spawn. They have been chasing my o. lithobates around a lot. I came up with an egg trap. It's similar to what people use for syno petros. Instead of a flower pot, I have a spawning rock on top. The idea is to catch the eggs that get scattered. I've been ...

Re: Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
I was thinking the water change might have also done something. After spending a day in a bag then being put in a tank at 78 deg. Re: Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
I'm thinking it might have had to do with the clown loaches. The way they dig in the rocks for food. They sort of shimmy to dig thru the rocks. Almost like Africans do when spawning. It took me by suprise. If I would have fed and walked away like normal, I never would have caught it.

Synodontis multipunctata frenzy spawn??
I picked up 4 syno multis Saturday. They are about 3.5"-4" in length. Tonight I gave them a few shrimp pellets for an evening snack. I noticed when the fish came out in a mild feeding frenzy(the clown loaches were the ones more frenzied), it looked like the syno multi female dropped some eggs and a ...

Re: lucipinnis help needed
What is the age before you can get them to spawn? Is it 3-4 years? I have little 2" cats now. I'm guessing they should be at least a year old at 2". Is there a way to guess the age of syno lucipinnis by there size? I'm just wondering how long I'll have to wait.

Synodontis petricola/lucipinnis ??????
Hello. I'm new to this sight. I've been researching my new cats that I got and came across this web sight. I bought these fish as Synodontis petricola. It sounds like, the more I read, that I think they are Synodontis lucipinnis. They are 2" right now. When they talk about the clear window in their ...
