ID my pimelodid

Hi everyone, I was wondering what species of pimelodid I have here, I bought two individuals sold as "white line pimelodids" but am not certain as to the exact species. Are they blochii, albofasciatus or something else?

Re: ID these bushynoses

Thanks for the quick response. I should have figured they were one of the more common species but with so many bushynoses out there figured it would be good to double check. Part of the reason for my curiosity is because despite all the reading I've done on how easy these guys are to breed mine just ...

Yeah.
Mines just not quite so fat as the first picture, and the sna dwashes him out a bit, but it looks the same.
He occasionally will swim like a paroon too.
Im in the US BTW

So, do you have photos of the fish you're willing for the site to use by any chance?

If I recall correctly Coppersafe should be alright to use with catfish. I just re-read the label and it only warns against use with plants and inverts.

Re: Possable hybrid catfish

Are there any key factors why you think it is something else? Are you aware of any info as to where the fish came from, what it was sold as etc given the look of the fish it has that pim/mystus appearance but with 6 & eight barbels respectively it clearly isn't (unless there is a really small ...

Re: Possable hybrid catfish

I know some cross-family hybrids are possible but as I understand it they are very rare. I guess there is a cross between tiger shovelnoses (Pimelodidae) and ripsaws (Doradidae) as well.
Thanks for the help guys. I did not realize that such a hybrid was possible and cannot really imagine why anyone ...

A member at another forum I visit posted some pictures of a catfish he said was a hybrid between a paroon shark and redtail catfish. I don't buy it. Mine has since been moved to a 40g, the oscar started picking on it and the other catfish when they were in the 75g. I moved the two pim cats and the Asian U.D. into the 40g along with a pair of bushynoses. At first the U.D. would pick on the P. albofasciatus constantly. The pim had torn fins and ...

Have you seen the March 2000 Catfish of the Month article by Shane Linder, on this site? Note the sentence about how they can 'wreak total havoc' in a community tank.

In my experience they're fine with similar-sized fish, or larger, but very quarrelsome amongst themselves.

Yes, I have read that ...

I have nine catfish species and love them all for various reasons. My brown bullhead is my favotite. While a lot of people would consider them ugly I love watching mine swim ...

Yeah, but the fork is much less pronounced when they get big. This applies to blues as well. And it is hard to tell much about the tail fork from this picture. I think that the shape of the anal fin is a better distinguishing characteristic ...

Re: Goldfish died

I don't know why fish stores sell 2 gallon tanks. 1 goldfish might survive if you took really good care of it, changing water out every day, with complete changes every week. But to sell you a pl*co besides is really ignorant. Our regular old pl*co is 8 1/4 inches and still growing. And we keep our ...

Re: Thanks!

I can't believe our little pl*co would grow that big. I always thought that a fish would not outgrow the tank.

It's a common myth but a myth none-the-less. There is an element of truth, the fish do stay small but it's due to water quality and not tank size. Water quality quickly plummets in such ...

I have kept dwarf otocinclus before but don't have any at the moment. I find that once they have been acclimated they are actually rather hardy species.
