Re: Do you think fish keeping might be a bit cruel.
It could be argued that wild caught fish are actually better for the hobby. If people are catching fish for the aquarium industry, they will need to take a keen interest in their environment around them in order to maintain their livelyhood. If they are forced to seek employment elsewhere it is ...

I dont think that the white stuff on you tank will be Ich, I've never seen it form colonies on the glass surface before. If I had bought the filter from a retailer and the media had mold I would have retured it to them and found a replacement, although I don't know what American returns policies are ...

Its quite normal for many plecs to be shy especially when they have not been in the tank a long time, he may grown used to you in time. I often have trouble keeping my plecs off one of my sword plants, you could try giving your fish lots fresh vegetables for example courgette, cucumber, yams etc. I ...

I've made a few slate caves before. one thing I would recommend is to use roofing slate rather than floor tiles as the thickness of roof tiles seems to be far more consistent. This makes assembling the caves far more straight forward. Oase make a product called "edmp-fix" which you use in a mastic ...
I have used the hagen mini master kit, which has tests for ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and pH. it seems fairly consistent but one thing to make sure of is that the test tubes are well rinsed other wise you can get worrying results pH of 14 for example! I have also used the Tetra test sticks, they test ...

Rusty Plecs an odd situation
I have a total of 4 rusty plecs (L-077) split between two 100 litre tanks. the filtration system is common to the two tanks. In one of the tanks the fish are healthy and active, but in the other tank the fish look under nourished. both tanks have been recieving the same quantity and type of feeds ...

Ive never actually tried photographing glass cats before. What you could try is putting your camera on a tripod or a something like a sturdy chair with a bucket on top often works, if possible use the self timer so your finger movements don't blur the image. Turn the flash off. Your next problem is ...
