Spawning Synodontis multipunctatus?

Post by Catlids »

Has anyone actually been able to watch S. multipunctatus spawn without a host? I have a pair that I have been watching lately that look like they are going through a spawning ritual, but I haven't seen any eggs released. They act just like a Corydoras does when it is spawning, with the T-formation and going around in circles. The male curves his tail way around and quivers with the female at a right angle to his body. Then they turn around and the male is at a right angle to the female. This goes on for several minutes or until they are disturbed.

Yes, we have, but the behavior you describe often happens even if the fish aren't close to spawning. Are you sure you have a pair? If you post pics, they can be sexed quite easily.
